Decking + flooring.

B-deck + concrete, resin board, bar grating, or diamond plate. The right deck depends on your live load, your fire rating, and what's happening above and below it. 416 spec's it per use, not per catalog.

What it is

Pick the deck that matches the use.

The mezzanine deck does three things at once: carries the live load, defines the fire rating between levels, and decides whether sprinkler water can pass through to the floor below. Wrong deck = code violation, sprinkler shadow, or under-spec capacity.

416 picks the deck per use. Storage at 250 psf with sprinkler coverage above + below gets one answer. An open office floor with low live load gets another. A maintenance platform with chemical exposure gets a third.

Every deck choice is reflected on the engineer-stamped drawing — load capacity, deflection limit, fire rating, finish.

Deck choices

Four standard finishes.

01 · B-Deck + Concrete

Storage mezzanine standard

22-20ga B-deck with 2-3" concrete topping. 250 psf+. Hard-wearing, fire-resistant. Most common storage choice. Sprinkler water doesn't pass through.

02 · Resin Board

Office + light pick

Engineered wood + resin top. Quiet, level, dry. Painted or sealed. 125 psf typical for offices + pick mezzanines.

03 · Bar Grating

Sprinkler + light pass-through

Open serrated steel grate. Lets sprinkler water + light reach below. Required for cold-storage + some hazardous occupancies.

04 · Diamond Plate

Maintenance + equipment platforms

Solid steel raised-pattern deck. Slip-resistant. Best for mechanical decks, chemical exposure, frequent wash-down.

Load + fire + sprinkler, checked.

Load

Live load checked + stamped

Every deck assembly is checked against expected live load + impact factor. Deflection limit L/360 per OBC for office, L/240 for storage. Recorded on the drawing.

Fire

OBC fire-rating compliant

Where occupancy or building separations require a rated floor, the deck assembly is spec'd to ULC certification. Documentation included in the submittal.

Sprinkler

Sprinkler coverage verified

If your sprinkler system covers below the mezzanine, the deck choice has to let water through (grate) — or coverage above + below must be added. 416 coordinates with your sprinkler trade.

Install

Tight, plumb, level

All deck panels mechanically fastened to the mezzanine frame. Edges sealed. Level checked corner-to-corner before turnover.

Best for

Where the right deck earns its keep.

Storage mezzanines carrying pallet or carton load want B-deck + concrete at 250 psf+. Office or light-pick floors above storage want a quiet, level resin board. Cold-storage and some hazardous occupancies need bar grating so sprinkler water reaches the floor below. Maintenance and equipment platforms want diamond plate for grip and wash-down. Send the use, and 416 matches the deck on the engineer-stamped drawing — load capacity, deflection limit, fire rating, and finish all recorded.
