The mezzanine deck does three things at once: carries the live load, defines the fire rating between levels, and decides whether sprinkler water can pass through to the floor below. Wrong deck = code violation, sprinkler shadow, or under-spec capacity.
416 picks the deck per use. Storage at 250 psf with sprinkler coverage above + below gets one answer. An open office floor with low live load gets another. A maintenance platform with chemical exposure gets a third.

- B-Deck + ConcreteMost common storage deck. 22ga or 20ga B-deck + 2-3" concrete topping. 250+ psf live load. Sprinkler water doesn't pass through.
- Resin BoardEngineered wood + resin top. Dry, level, quiet. Best for light pick or office above storage. 125 psf typical.
- Bar GratingOpen serrated steel. Lets sprinkler water + light pass. Required for cold-storage + some hazardous-area mezzanines.
- Diamond PlateSolid steel deck for heavy maintenance + equipment platforms. Slip-resistant. Easy wash-down.
- Fire-rated assemblies1-hr + 2-hr assemblies available per OBC where required by occupancy or fire-separation rules.
Four standard finishes.
Storage mezzanine standard
22-20ga B-deck with 2-3" concrete topping. 250 psf+. Hard-wearing, fire-resistant. Most common storage choice.
Office + light pick
Engineered wood + resin. Quiet, level, dry. Painted or sealed. 125 psf typical for offices + pick mezzanines.
Sprinkler + light pass-through
Serrated steel grate. Lets sprinkler water reach below. Required for some cold-storage + hazardous occupancies.
Maintenance + equipment platforms
Solid steel raised-pattern deck. Slip-resistant. Best for mechanical decks, chemical exposure, frequent wash-down.
Load + fire + sprinkler, checked.
Live load checked + stamped
Every deck assembly is checked against expected live load + impact factor. Deflection limit L/360 per OBC for office, L/240 for storage. Recorded on the drawing.
OBC fire-rating compliant
Where occupancy or building separations require a rated floor, the deck assembly is spec'd to ULC certification. Documentation included in the submittal.
Sprinkler coverage verified
If your sprinkler system covers below the mezzanine, the deck choice has to let water through (grate) — or coverage above + below must be added. 416 coordinates with your sprinkler trade.
Tight, plumb, level
All deck panels mechanically fastened to the mezzanine frame. Edges sealed. Level checked corner-to-corner before turnover.
