Why CANTILEVER RACKING?

The Problem

Standard pallet racking can’t handle your longest materials. Lumber overhangs the beams. Steel pipe rolls off the decking. Plywood sheets don’t fit between uprights. You end up storing inventory on the floor, blocking aisles and creating safety hazards.

Why It Gets Worse

Floor-stored materials get damaged, lost, and forgotten. Forklifts can’t navigate around them safely. Your team wastes time searching for materials buried under other stock. And every OSHA or MOL inspector who walks through flags the same issues.

The Solution

Cantilever racking is purpose-built for long and irregular loads. Open front design means forklifts approach from either side. Arms adjust in 3” increments to match your exact product lengths. Single-sided or double-sided configurations adapt to your space. No columns in the way — just clean, accessible storage.

Configuration Options

SINGLE-SIDED

Wall-Mounted Configuration

Access 1 forklift approach
Placement Against walls / perimeter
Arms 2’–6’ adjustable
Height Up to 20’
Load/Arm 2,000–5,000 lbs

Ideal For

  • Wall-mounted perimeter storage
  • Single-aisle access areas
  • Smaller facilities
  • One-side loading operations
  • Space-constrained layouts

Key Advantages

  • Maximizes wall space usage
  • Smaller footprint
  • Lower cost per unit
  • Simple installation
  • Easy material identification

DOUBLE-SIDED

Freestanding Configuration

Access 2 forklift approaches
Placement Freestanding / center floor
Arms 2’–6’ per side
Height Up to 20’
Load/Arm 2,000–5,000 lbs

Ideal For

  • Center-floor placement
  • High-volume lumber yards
  • Steel distribution centers
  • Both-side access operations
  • Maximum storage density

Key Advantages

  • Double the storage per footprint
  • Access from both sides
  • Self-stabilizing structure
  • Higher throughput
  • Ideal for aisle-based workflows

Industry Applications

Lumber Yards

Store dimensional lumber, plywood, and engineered wood products with full front access for forklift loading and unloading.

Steel & Metal Distributors

Bar stock, tube, pipe, angle iron, and structural steel stored safely at height with arms rated for heavy loads.

Furniture & Appliance

Oversized items that don’t fit standard pallets. Couches, mattresses, appliance boxes stored vertically.

Plumbing & Pipe

PVC, copper, and steel pipe stored by length and diameter. Arms prevent rolling and keep inventory organized.

Why Choose 416 Industrial

No Front Columns

Open front design provides unrestricted access for forklifts and overhead cranes. Load and unload from the front without obstruction.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cantilever racking excels with long, bulky, and irregularly shaped items: lumber, plywood, steel bar stock, pipe, tubing, furniture, appliances, carpet rolls, and anything that overhangs or doesn’t fit standard pallet racking. If your product is longer than 8 feet, cantilever is likely the right solution.

Standard cantilever systems reach up to 20 feet. Height depends on load weight, arm length, seismic zone, and whether the system is single or double-sided. Double-sided systems are inherently more stable and can reach greater heights. We engineer each system to your specific requirements.

Yes. Galvanized cantilever racking is designed for outdoor use and withstands rain, snow, UV exposure, and temperature extremes. We recommend hot-dip galvanized finishes for permanent outdoor installations and powder coat for covered outdoor areas.

Standard arms support 2,000–5,000 lbs depending on arm length and column spacing. Shorter arms at closer column spacing achieve higher capacities. Custom engineering can reach 8,000+ lbs per arm for specialized heavy-duty applications.

Single-sided goes against a wall and uses one forklift approach. Double-sided is freestanding with access from both sides and roughly doubles your storage per floor area. Choose single-sided for perimeter storage and double-sided for center-floor aisle configurations.
